Nowhere else in the world!
When we talk about the connection between our two countries – Nepal and Slovakia – we often think of nature, mountains, spirituality. But there is something much more tangible. Something that involves sweat, determination and incredible strength: mountain porters.
Yes, even in the 21st century, there are still people who carry tens to hundreds of kilos of supplies to mountain huts on their own shoulders. Not by car. Not by cable cars. On their own feet, with their strength and heart.
And now the point!
This phenomenon persists in only two places in the world – in Nepal and in Slovakia. Porters in the Himalayas carry supplies to teahouses and expedition stations. Tatra porters, on the other hand, supply mountain huts in our high mountains. In both cases, it is work that a machine would not do better – because in addition to muscles, it also requires soul and determination.
(To be fair – in Japan there are also so-called “bokka” who do something similar. But there it is more of a rarity than a living tradition.)
Simplicity, strength and purity – even on a plate
Why are we mentioning this here, on the blog of Bistra DHABA in Liptovský Mikuláš?
Because these carriers, from both countries, deserve nutrition that will sustain them. Food that is tasty and full of nutrients. And you can find exactly that here.
Lentil dhal, fresh vegetable sabji, basmati rice or masala tea – that is energy in its purest form. Just like in the mountains, we also believe that clean, honest food makes a strong body and spirit.
Sometimes think of those who today, right now, are walking with 90 kilos of flour, gas and tea into the mountains.
One maybe in the Tatras. The other in the Himalayas. And both close to our hearts.
From the DHABA team:
We cook for you with respect and honor.
For all those who carry more on their shoulders than they seem.
